Spring Clean Up

About This Piece

My husband had just finished cleaning his bike after a long winter and it was glistening in the sunlight. Beautiful!

Artist Statement

I grew up during the 1950’s and 60’s, a time when America’s love affair with the automobile became a cultural phenomenon. As the daughter of an auto worker cars were an important part of my life. The shiny bohemoth in the driveway of our suburban home was the quintessential emblem of middle class success. In the 1970’s the anti-establishment hippie biker subculture was prevalent. I was raised on tail fins, muscle cars, and Harleys. As a contemporary realist, I paint what I see and I am fascinated by the way light falls on objects. My artwork has evolved around shiny chrome, glass, and saturated colors. The images of cars and motorcycles evoke memories of the excitement and freedom of the open road.
