About This Piece
Part of a series of five different sheep and a goat's heads, each hangs from a wall on an individual bracket, so thay could go in a long row or a be grouped in a little herd. There is an edition of 10, so up to 60.
I work mostly life-size and mainly in plaster, sometimes in wax or clay, and cast in bronze. I enjoy the processes of transformation from one substance to the next; from subject to drawing, from image to three dimensions, from inert powder to solid object, from plaster to wax to bronze. Building up and taking back, adding and subtracting. The work is about the process and the endless choice, the struggle to make something work from all angles. The satisfaction is in making a whole cohesive animal that embodies some feeling or thought, from nothing, from dust.
